The Akwa Ibom state governorship tribunal today nullified the April 11
governorship election in 18 out of the 31 Local government areas in the
state, citing irregularities in the manner in which the elections were
conducted. The tribunal ordered that fresh elections should be conducted
in the affected Local government areas while the state governor, should
still remain in office pending the outcome of the re-run election.
