Oklahoma, United States - New York City-based Satanic Temple organization have raised the $30,000 they needed to erect a statue of Baphomet, the ancient goat-headed occult idol, opposite the Oklahoma statehouse.
Satanic Temple started their campaign in January 2013 to mock the Ten Commandments monument built in Oklahoma a few years ago. The news went viral, and they have received enough monetary donations to hire a sculptor who made a full-size mold to cast the statue in bronze, and to cast even more statues if the first one is destroyed.
Journalists of Vice, a popular U.S. alternative news source, got a look a the statue which, according to the Satanic Temple representative, is to be completed within a couple of months. Baphomet, a 7-foot-tall shirtless human figure with a goat head, is surrounded by two small children.
There is a legal battle in progress over the future installation, and the group has received several threats to destroy the monument should it ever be erected. However, the Satanic Temple plan to pull up the statue no matter what the decision will be.
