Boko Haram members and the Nigerian troop are presently in a serious gun
battle in Bita town near Gwoza in Borno state after the sect members
attempted to invade Gwoza town yesterday night. Residents say the
fighting started when the sect members attacked a military facility in
Bita town and were approaching Gwoza when they met a stiff opposition
from the Nigerian troops.
The gun battle which started at about 10pm continued into this morning.
Military fighter jets from Yola have been dispatched to the area.
Gwoza is one of the Borno towns recaptured from the militants, and some
of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the area returned there
recently on the assurance that normalcy has been restored to the area.
