Ministerial Screening: How Senate Booed Lai Mohammed

Some members of the 8th Senate went a little frenzy today at the ministerial nominees screening when it was the turn of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to be scrutinised.
The national publicity secretary of the APC was nominated to represent Kwara state as a prospective minister in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
However, the moment Mohammed came up to be screened, senators who seemed to be those on the platform of the APC voiced out as they began to yell at the APC scribe saying: “Bow and go… bow and go.”
Waving the mild drama that ensued aside, the Senate president, Senator Bukola Saraki, asked Mohammed, a nominee from the state which he too represents as senator, to introduce himself. But the senators continued the yelling still shouting ‘bow and go’.

Subsequently, in his motion, the Senate leader, Senator Ali Ndume, proposed that Lai Mohammed should just bows and go.
It took the intervention of the Senate president for the Senators to have allowed him the APC spokesman to speak.
Having been allowed to speak, Alhaji Mohammed in his introductory speech said that in the course of carrying out his duty as the ruling party’s spokesman that he may have stepped on few toes stressing that there was nothing personal about it.
Mohammed noted that it is service to be in the opposition, but a higher service to serve in government.
Further in the session, there was uproar as the upper the moment the Senate president asked Lai Mohammed to speak a few more words before he bows and go.

The APC national image-maker, who is touted to become the minister of information, added that his mission and vision if confirmed minister is to be passionate, committed and patriotic as he had been in his duty as the APC national publicity secretary.
As a form of jest, the Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, said having known Lai Mohammed so well, it was not unusual that he might have propaganda to drop before the Senate.
The APC national scribe finally bowed and left.
