Official Date For Sallah Announced

The Saudi Arabian Moon Sighting Committee has announced Wednesday, September 23 as the new date for Arafat.
The Day of Arafat is an important observance which falls during the Islamic month of Hajj, the Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah.
The date was earlier fixed for September 22, while September 23 was for the Eid-il-adha (Day of Sacrifice).In a notice yesterday night by the Saudi Arabia Judiciary, the expected moon of the Month of Dhul-Hijja 1435 was not sighted on Sunday, September 13 , hence the month of Dhul- Qadha will be counted to be 30.

This means that the month of Dhul-Hijja will commence on Tuesday, September 15, shifting the day of Arafat from Tuesday, September 22 to Wednesday, September 23, hence Eid-El-Kabir (Day of Sacrifice) will now be September 24.
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), the umbrella body of Islamic groups in Nigeria, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad, in a statement on Sunday, September 13, has however declared that the month of Dhul Hajj begins Monday, September 14 which means that Eid-el-Kabir Sallah will be observed on Wednesday, September 23.
Meanwhile, six Nigerian pilgrims have been confirmed dead in a crane accident in Mecca, Saudi Arabia on Friday, September 11. Uba Mana, the spokesman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCOW) states that investigation has commenced on the matter.
The accident is coming few days after the commission announced that five Nigerian pilgrims had died in the Holy land.
