Two Killed As Cultists Clash In Anambra

PM news reports that two suspected cultists were killed at Nkpor community, near Onitsha in Anambra when rival cult groups; Aiye and Akpa clashed on Saturday.

10 others were also reported to have sustained injuries in the clash on Nkpor-Obosi Road.
Mr Hassan Musa, the DPO in-charge of Ogidi Divisional Police Headquarters who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview said before the joint team of the Mobile policemen and the Police Anti-Cult Squad could reach the scene two unidentified people were already killed.
He said that members of the cult group had taken away the bodies of the deceased in an attempt to avoid identification and possible trace by the police. He added that the incident was being investigated.

A Department of State Services, (DSS) official who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed the cult groups that clashed.
The official claimed that the intervention of the police prevented the situation from escalating as the rival groups fled for fear of being apprehended or identified.
He said: “It is not possible to ascertain whether the deceased members and the injured ones were from only one cult group or from both sides.
“However, those whose members were killed ensured that they took their corpses away before the arrival of the Police Anti-cult Squad and Mobile police.”
The cause of the clash has however not yet been identified.
In a related development, SARS working in Enugu state have uncovered 187 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and 10 live cartridges in a bush within Nwosu terrace axis of Ogui area of the state. The operatives also arrested two student cultists who are members of different fraternities.
Also in Rivers state, the state police command arrested 36 people suspected to be cultists, after having a gun brawl with the security officials. One of the suspects lost his life during the gun battle.
