Saraki Replies To APC Over Senate Appointments

Another sensational letter has leaked online. It is a reply from Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, to the All Progressives Congress over the scandalous appointments in the National Assembly.
On June 23, the APC leadership sent Saraki a document signed by the party national leader, John Odigie-Oyegun. It contained recommendations regarding the appointees to the leadership positions in the 8th Senate.

However, in mock polls held on June 24, APC senators voted for different candidates and, in particular, elected Ali Ndume as the majority leader of the Red Chamber. This resulted in a crisis deepening within the party. Ahmed Lawan, the preferred candidate who had previously lost to Saraki for the Senate presidency, rejected the results.
However, on Thursday, June 25, Ndume was officially nominated. Saraki, for his part, was accused of moving against the party by not following its directives.
Senator Saraki replied to Odigie-Oyegun. In his letter he explained why he acted in the way which disappointed the party. He wrote that the APC letter was received after the zonal caucuses during which the principal officers were nominated (article continues below).

Therefore he could not follow the recommendations in order to comply with the provisions of the party rules. In conclusion Saraki expressed his loyalty to the party and commitment to its “change agenda”.
