Govt Ayo Fayose, Tinubu react to Saraki’s victory (Read, Watch)

On Tuesday, June 9, Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, emerged as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.

They were not the candidates of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, who were at the International Conference Centre, with other APC Senators, when the election occurred.

After being sworn-in, APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande, were captured in a video, making their exit out of the ICC.

While Tinubu had a stern look on his face, Akande had his trademark whimsical expression.

Meanwhile, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose- while hailing the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki and Hon Yakubu Dogara as the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively,- took a major swipe at Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

In his statement released through his Spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, after the National Assembly elections, he said: “With what happened at the National Assembly today, those who believed that they can turn Nigeria to their personal estate must have realised the futility of their efforts and the beneficiaries of this collective resolve by Nigerians must make sure that they do not fail the country.”

Adding insult to injury, Fayose further said: “The emergence of Hon Yakubu Dogara as the House of Representatives Speaker is a lesson of life that what goes round will definitely come round.”
“Today, Nigerians demonstrated to the entire world that our country has come of age democratically. Also, President Mohammadu Buhari, by not interfering in the process through which the National Assembly leadership emerged today, further demonstrated that as he said in his inaugural speech, he is indeed for everybody, and he is for nobody.”

“What happened at the National Assembly today has rekindled my hope in the Nigeria Nation and my abiding faith in the supremacy of the people over those whose major interest is to assume the sole-ownership of the country. It also shows that it is not in all cases that the soul of this nation can be bought off the shelf with stupendous wealth.”

“I congratulate Senator Bukola Saraki, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Hon Yakubu Dogara and Hon Yusuf Sulaimon Lasun for this well-deserved victory and I urge them to see their election as a call to the service of their fatherland.”
