A report on IT Edge News suggests that the incoming
government of Muhammadu Buhari will merge some of the agencies of
government in order to manage the cost of governance.
The agencies mentioned include the National information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

The information was revealed by a member of APC Economic Think Tank who revealed that the agencies will be merged as part of the Buhari’s administration’s effort to reduce the over-bloated cost of governance in Nigeria.
He said: “There is no money. Cost saving has become imperative if the APC must fulfill its obligation to the Nigerian people.”
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigerian (FRCN) and the Voice of Nigeria (VON) are also touted to be merged too, with the name Federal Corporation Broadcasting of Nigeria as recommended over three years ago by the Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.

Former head of service of the federation, Stephen Oronsaye, was
the head of the committee then. The report sparked controversy as many
of the civil servants were opposed to the recommendations of the report.

Speaking on the topic further, the APC economic strategist said: “I assure you with all sense of responsibility that the new government will adopt a systematic adoption of this report to ensure full rationalization of the MDAs [ministries, departments and agencies] so as to drive better efficiencies at a lower cost to government and the Nigerian people.”
NITDA will become a department in the Federal Ministry of Communications Technology while its IT clearing house function for the public sector would now be handled by Galaxy Backbone Limited, which currently offers connectivity services to MDAs.
NIGCOMSAT, the publicly owned communication satellite company will be fully privatized with government having only minority stakes. It’s research functions and other roles will be reverted to the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
The Communications Regulatory Authority of Nigeria is expected to become the fusion of NCC and the NBC. That of NIPOST is still undecided.

The Oronsaye report adviced the then government to abolish 38 government agencies, merge 52 of them and reverse 14 of them to departments in the similar ministries. The report then claimed the recommendations will ensure over N400 billion will be retained in the government coffers if implemented.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress has dismissed lists of Buhari’s appointments being circulated by some online media sources.
