Arguably, Nigeria's most popular football icon, Austin ‘Jay
Jay’ Okocha, has revealed why his daughter would not play professional
football.
While speaking with 'Femi and The Gang' on
Nigeria Info FM, the former Super Eagles's midfield maestro stated: "My
son is focusing on his education for now and will play football at the
right time. Though my daughter will never play professional football
because they (female footballers) aren’t paid well enough."
The
retired footballer, popularly called 'Jay Jay' by his numerous fans,
also mentioned six football stars of all time he admired most.
Among
them are retired Germany's goalkeeper, Oliver Khan, ex-Super Eagles
defenders, Uche Okechukwu, Taribo West, Austin Eguavoen and
Brazil’s Ronaldinho.
Okocha (leLate Nigerian striker, Rashidi Yekini, who scored Nigeria’s first-ever goal in 1994 World Cup also made Okocha's list.
Meanwhile,
Jay Jay did not forget to mention the coach Stefanovic, who gave him
his first chance at the Eintracht Frankfurt, as his favorite manager of
all time.
When asked about his recent appointment as a
#ShineOnNigeria ambassador, he said: "Being a passionate football fan is
not easy because I am in that position now where your team’s
performance can make or break your day.
"All thanks to Star Larger Beer for recognizing Nigerian football fans and giving us a voice to support our team."
Okocha was part of the Nigerian team that qualified and represented the country at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA.
Among
some of the clubs he played for in abroad after leaving Enugu Rangers
in Nigeria are Frankfurt in Germany, PSG in France, Bolton and Hull City
in England.
