In his opening address the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, whose office coordinated the inauguration, stated that all the 492 delegates confirmed their nomination and were present at the opening ceremony in Andrews Otutu Obaseki Auditorium of the National Judicial Institute, Abuja.
The five political parties which have representatives in the National Assembly were given two slots each: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Accord Party (AP) and the APC.
However, the Interim Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a telephone interview with Premium Times that the party shunned the event, because it had taken the decision not to be part of it.
He also noted that Mr. Anyim was lying by proclaiming that all the delegates were in attendance, noting that no one should dragged to the conference.
“The man (Anyim) is just deceiving himself.“Is it by force to attend the conference? APC has said they will not attend and that is the final decision.“The party has agreed for governors to send representatives because it is a state affair, not party’s,” Lai Mohammed concluded.
It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan inaugurated the 492-member conference around 5 pm on March 17, 2014, Monday, during which he said he had no personal agenda for convening the conference.
